Day 6

Petrified Forest/Painted Desert

sunny 77 °F

Left the Canyon today and headed to the Petriefied Forest. I'm so glad we made this side trip. It was really worth the time. We got some great pictures of the kids with the Giant Logs. The history here is almost too much to comprehend. On the way out of the Petrified Forest you drive through the Painted Desert which is just beautiful. Arizona is an amazing state.

From here we made it to our last camping site of the trip. Fool Hollow Lake in Show Low, Arizona. This place is absolutely incredible. First Class camping if there is such a thing. Our view was great and it was so quiet and peaceful. This was the most relaxing evening we had.

Day 4&5

Grand Canyon

sunny 85 °F

When we arrived at the Grand Canyon and got our first glimpse we all said "WOW" in unison. It's an unbelievable site and we still walk out of our hotel room and just stand there and stare. It's such an incredible place. What I find most amazing is the fact that almost all the people you are around are polite and respectful. It's so different than going to a theme park where people are rude and you stand in line forever. I think being around such an inspiring view brings out the best in people.

After 2 nights of staying at El Tovar we camped at a Grand Canyon campground and the kids were so excited. We cooked hamburgers and smores for dinner and Chef Chris made a great camp breakfast the next morning. We were a little worried the kids wouldn't enjoy camping but they actually had the best time outside of the hotel room and away from the TV.

Day 2 First stop at the drug store for motion sickness medicine! From there on to Carlsbad Caverns for a tour of the caves. Kids are excited and I'm ready for a change in scenery. West Texas seems to last forever.

Going through the cute West Texas town of Pecos. They have replica of Judge Roy Bean's office!

Finally made it to Albuquerque and had a nice dinner at St. Clairs Bistro and Winery.
